PTO Activities & Fund Raising

After School Programs - Programs that benefit our students.
Arts & Science Fair – The PTO plans, organizes, and provides awards for the Arts & Science Fair, allowing the students to showcase their work and learn from their peers.

Assemblies – The PTO schedules and funds school assemblies.

Book Fairs - the PTO encourages literacy by holding two book fairs during the school year.  Through the proceeds from this endeavor, books are purchased for the library and the teachers.

Bus Driver Appreciation – A small token of our appreciation is given to all of our bus drivers for their service to our children.

Class Parties - PTO volunteers coordinate and hold three class parties throughout the school year.  The PTO provides funds to help pay for these parties.

Clerical Aides–  PTO members volunteer to work in the copy room, making copies and performing other clerical duties for teachers.

Counselor’s Fund - The PTO provides the school counselor with funds to help families of Newlonsburg who need assistance when purchasing supplies for school or school events.

Family Fun Event  - The Family Fun event provides all of the families of Newlonsburg an opportunity to gather together, socialize and have fun.

Field Trips – The PTO funds field trips, including transportation for each grade.

Newlonsburg Garden - PTO maintains and improves the Garden.

Planners – The PTO purchases planners for grades 3-5 and folders for the younger grades to help students learn organization skills.

Teacher Appreciation - The PTO provides a lunch for the staff during Teacher Appreciation week. Volunteers also coordinate a flower collection for the teachers and encourage the students to write thank you notes to their teachers during this week.

Teacher Grants – Teachers and staff of Newlonsburg can apply for and receive grants for new and innovative programs to enhance the curriculum.

Visiting Author – Each year the librarians from the Newlonsburg, Sloan, and Heritage invite a children’s author to visit our schools.  The author holds an assembly for the entire student body and does a writing workshop with the fourth graders.  This program is funded by the Elementary PTOs.

Walk and Talk Club – PTO members administer, staff, and provide rewards for the Walk and Talk Club which encourages the children to be active during recess by walking laps around the school grounds.

This year’s budget will be reviewed and voted upon for approval at the first PTO meeting .

The PTO has two major Fundraisers planned for this year.

Fall Fundraiser:

Kid Stuff Coupon Books will be sent home in early September.  These “family friendly” coupon books have money saving offers that can be used at many national and local stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues.  The book costs $25, and easily pays for itself after using just one or two coupons.

Cat Cash Program:

Families purchase gift cards with a portion of each sale going directly to fund activities for students planned by Newlonsburg Elementary PTO.  The website is

We also have smaller fundraisers throughout the year.  These include the following:

Scholastic Book Fairs are held in the Fall and Spring.

Bake Sales will be held in conjunction with the Book Fairs.

The Student Directory is compiled by a PTO volunteer.  Proceeds benefit the PTO.

Spirit clothing sales are held each year.

Restaurant Nights: In the last few years, several area restaurants have begun programs offering donations to charitable organizations based on purchases by their members.

Premiums : There are now several companies that offer “cash back” programs or provide school equipment based on purchases at their stores.  The premium programs in which we participate are listed below (see Cash Back Programs web page for more details):

Box Tops:  You will find Box Tops on hundreds of your favorite products.  Just clip the Box Tops and send them into school.  The PTO will count them and mail them to the Box Tops for Education.

Giant Eagle Apples for the Students:   Register your Giant Eagle Advantage card online or call 1-800-474-4777.  Enter our school ID# 1591, and then shop with your Advantage card.  Each scan of your Giant Eagle Advantage card will provide a “bushel of help” for our school.  You will continue to earn fuel perks along with points for Newlonsburg. Last year we earned a digital camera, photo quality printer, equipment for field day, and some science materials.

Target Take Charge of Education:   If you have a Target REDcard (Target Visa, Target Credit Card, or Target Check card,) Target will donate up to 1% of your purchases to our school.  Visit or call 1-800-316-6142 to designate Newlonsburg as the school of your choice.
